Who they are Captains of Leadership is a collective of facilitators founded in 2017 and based in Zonhoven, Belgium. They see facilitation not as an add-on skill but as a fundamental form of leadership to be practiced whenever people have the opportunity to co-create. Their identity rests on the belief that allowing the inner facilitator to lead helps organisations become more adaptive, inclusive and creative.
Core services and expertise Captains of Leadership focuses on three complementary areas: training people to become facilitative leaders, designing and delivering moments of co-creation within organisations, and helping to build a lasting co-creative culture. Their training work translates facilitative skills into day-to-day leadership behaviour. Their co-creation sessions are crafted to unlock group intelligence in workshops and meetings. And their culture-building work supports teams and organisations in adopting participatory practices that stick.
Approach and methodology Working as a collective allows Captains of Leadership to combine diverse facilitation styles while maintaining a consistent philosophy: facilitation equals leadership. They favour experiential learning — participants practise facilitation in safe, real-world settings — and design every intervention to be practical, repeatable and context-sensitive. Rather than prescribing a single method, they co-design processes with stakeholders so outcomes are meaningful and owned by the participants.

HistoireWe started Captains of Leadership in 2017 in Zonhoven with a simple conviction: facilitation is a pure form of leadership and everyone can practice it. As a collective of facilitators we learned early on that the most powerful moments happen when people move from being passive participants to active co-creators. Our days are spent training people to become facilitative leaders, designing and delivering moments of co-creation inside organisations, and supporting teams as they build a co-creative culture. We’ve faced scepticism — leadership must be top-down, people said — and we met it with practice, patience and scalable tools. We remain driven by one thought: when inner facilitators break free, organisations and communities become better places to work and live.
