We’re addicted to retail and Di is the foremost beauty and care retailer in Belgium. In 2015, the company launched their new website www.di.be, developed by Hello Agency. The goal was to create a portal and inspiration hub with all sorts of advice and tutorials, aimed at people inspired by beauty and care topics.

The challenge

Di wanted to reinforce their brand positioning and underline how useful Di is in our daily life. Interactivity, personalisation and relevance were absolute priorities. So users can create their own profile and leave comments on new product releases, give feedback on articles, etc.

We even took user engagement to the next level by implementing both a shopping list feature and a weekly contest. The shopping list makes it possible for visitors to create a personalised list online, before visiting a physical store.

Online contests are not out – far from it – as fun and easy contests are run almost every two weeks. The prizes are often aimed at discovering new products – exactly what our core target audience likes best.

Our design vision was to make everything really, really simple. We opted for a flat Pinterest-like design that uses “card layouts” that are extremely user-friendly and score high in UX research as they present information in bite-sized chunks perfect for scanning. Experts call them ‘content containers’, as their rectangular shape makes them easy to re-arrange for different devices. As Angélique Padovani, Digital Marketing Manager at DI, confirms: “In an era where mobile is taking such a prominent position it was a mandatory to develop a fully-responsive website that is focused on offering a seamless user experience across devices.” For Hello Agency it was extremely important to offer DI a unique and creative solution as we did not want to develop the next-in-row WordPress theme-based user experience.

At Hello Agency we believe in a 360° approach to retail marketing. We are convinced a modern retailer’s website should be developed and designed with the different stages of your consumer’s journey in mind. For DI.be, we chose to address consumers that are actively considering and engaging with our brand – the foundation of a DI brand ambassador community.
