Decathlon is a giant amongst sports retailers – in fact, it’s the n° 1 across Europe and is present in some 26 countries.

The Challenge 

As part of the opening of a new Decathlon store in Evere, the company was interested not only in traffic, but also in finding out more about these new visitors. This is the sort of mindset we like.

So we were asked to make an action that would enable them to gather as much info as possible from potential customers.

Our Approach

We thought: for Decathlon, let’s think big. So we launched a 360° campaign whose image portrays Decathlon Evere as ‘the largest sport planet ‘.

To support this ambitious claim, we developed a mini site packed with practical information for the customers.

Because we are in the realm of sport, we also added two big games to collect customer data. On the one hand, we looked at individual visitors. On the other, we gave particular attention to the surrounding sports clubs and companies, notably by asking them to send in videos.

To complete this, we used several other tools to announce the opening but also to call on the people to take part in the competition, notably:

--> An e-mailing,

--> PPA,

--> Folder.

The Result

A well-rounded approach to the opening that already brought direct, usable contacts and customer information on which the management could build over the following months.

We created an interactive YouTube fundraising where we employed the mechanism of a preroll countdown timer allowing the viewer to offer a donation in the form of “seconds”. Reminding viewers to donate, every second they skip.
