IV.1 General presentation of the project

IV.1.1.1 Architecture and Climate

The Architecture et Climat research team is part of UCL's Faculty of Architecture, Architectural Engineering and Urban Planning.

It seeks to support sustainable development by developing and disseminating scientific knowledge specific to architecture, in the physical dimensions of the act of building and the act of living, placing the relationship between man and his environment (environmental, societal and economic) at the center of concerns and considering all spatial and temporal scales.

IV.1.1.2 The Energy + website

For almost 20 years, the Energie + website (https://www.energieplus-lesite.be) aims to promote the rational use of energy in public and private non-residential buildings. Developed by Architecture & Climat (UCL) and produced as part of the "Energy Manager" program initiated by the Walloon Region, this website is aimed at Energy Managers as well as designers, installers and architects.

Through constant attention to content, Energie + provides a wealth of information on the techniques and their components from the point of view of energy efficiency and comfort by exploring new technologies entering the market. Whether it's during a renovation or construction or just everyday with effective principles of energy management and regulation, this tool guides managers and designers to make the right choice.

Energie + has always positioned itself as a decision support tool. It makes it possible to identify and understand the subject matter in order to choose the most appropriate solution according to the context.

This site allows the decision-maker to position himself in relation to a problem by providing advice as simple and understandable as precise and complete. The site is organized into four sections titled Action Verbs that identify each phase of an energy project: Manage, Evaluate, Enhance and Design.

MANAGE

The purpose of the Manage section is to provide relevant information on the daily management of an existing installation to ensure energy efficiency and expected comfort. For this, details are given on the settings, maintenance and cleaning of a system, but also on the realization of a cadastre or energy accounting.

ASSESS

The Evaluate section aims to provide information on assessing the energy quality and comfort of an existing facility. It allows to analyze the current situation, to verify the advantages of a renovation or to evaluate the technical and economic potentials of an optimization.

IMPROVE

The Enhance section is a series of actions to be undertaken to improve the quality and energy efficiency of an existing facility. This section provides concrete information on renovating and replacing building systems or components: improving existing wall insulation, solving condensation problems, etc.
